The SnapBack Client
15
Note -> The username and password for SnapBack are taken locally from user list on the server which the
SnapBack Server resides on. If this server is a member of a domain then the domain user name and passwords are
used.
Login Security
The operator must be a member of the SNAPBACK OPERATORS group for the selected server.
SnapBack creates a group called SNAPBACK OPERATORS during installation. The first user to log in to the
SnapBack Server is automatically made a member of this group. To assign additional operators, use Computer
Management (if the machine is not a member of a domain) or Active Directory Users and Computers (if it is a
member of a domain) to add additional SnapBack Operators. No special security requirements, other than
membership in this group, are necessary to complete a full system backup.
Additional Security
The SnapBack Server can be set to specifically allow a range or individual IP Addresses to connect to it.
A list of valid IP addresses is kept in the file FILTERS.IP located in the SnapBack installation directory. When this
file does not exist, any IP address can log in using a valid user name and password. If the file exists, no IP address can
log in except those listed in this file. The format of the file is one IP address per line. Wildcards can be used when
specifying the IP address, as follows:
192.168.0.10
192.168.0.*
192.168.*
192.*
The first line allows only requests from 192.168.0.10, even if other IP addresses have valid user names and
passwords. The second line allows requests from any node on network 192.168.0, and so on.
