SnapBack Recovery Disk Problems
"Runtime error 101 : Disk write error".
Ensure that the SnapBack rescue diskette has some free space and is not write protected.
"Runtime error 202 Stack overflow".
Rename all the .CMD files to .OLD. This will keep SnapBack from getting tape drive specific information. The
backup or restore should now be able to continue.
Various Out of Memory Conditions.
Run the DOS program MEMMAKER to increase the amount of available conventional memory.
Append /overlay=40000 (or less) to the SnapBack command line. This will reduce the conventional memory
requirement at the expense of execution speed.
"Media Changed" when at start or restore.
When doing a disaster image restore from the SnapBack Recovery Disk you may need to modify the .CMD file to
reflect the proper block size of the tape. This should only be necessary when the SnapBack Recovery Disk does not
have an existing .CMD file for your tape drive or when the Block Size has been changed in the SnapBack
Configuration or automatically when the backup was made.
Add one of the following under the [NeedsCleaning] heading to the beginning of the CMD file:
Block
Size
CMD
Setting
512 Blocksize=1
1024 Blocksize=2
2048 Blocksize=3
4096 Blocksize=4
8192 Blocksize=5
16384 Blocksize=6
32768
(default)
Blocksize=7
For example, to set the blocksize to 4096:
[NeedsCleaning]
blocksize=4
To find out which .CMD to change, look in the SNAPBACK.VRF file under VIEW_BEGIN "DeviceIDs". Find your
drive and count the number of lines it is below the VIEW_BEGIN "DeviceIDs". Then go to the VIEW_BEGIN
"DeviceFiles" and count down the same number. The text between the quotes is the filename for your tape drive. If
SnapBack says that no device file exists for your tape drive, edit the default.cmd file.
If you cannot find your drive, or are lost, edit the SNAPBACK.VRF file and delete all lines between the
VIEW_BEGIN "DeviceIds" and VIEW_END except for the line "DefaultCommands". Next, edit the default.cmd file
with the above blocksize changes. It may be necessary to add the "[NeedsCleaning]" line to the file.
