AM-445 RAID SUBSYSTEM INSTALLATION
The AM-445 RAID subsystem protects your data by using redundant disks that rebuild the data
if a disk fault occurs. For detailed information on your RAID subsystem, see the manufacturer’s
documentation that came with the subsystem. That document will tell you how to use the RAID
subsystem keypad to configure the subsystem.
This document discusses installing a RAID subsystem onto an Alpha Microsystems AMOS or
Series 90 computer.
PREREQUISITES
Series 90 computers must be using an Adaptec SCSI adapter model AHA-1542X or
AHA-1742A (Alpha Microsystems part number PFB-00231-00 or PFB-00249-00), and
an operating system that supports the use of that adapter.
AMOS computers must contain an external SCSI-2 port. If your computer does not
provide SCSI-2 support, contact your VAR concerning upgrading your computer to
SCSI-2 compatibility with a Roadrunner processor, AM-540 SCSI interface, or AM-4000
upgrade.
IF YOU ARE INSTALLING THE RAID SUBSYSTEM ALONG WITH A HARDWARE UPGRADE
If you are installing the RAID disk array subsystem along with additional hardware
upgrades (for example, a new CPU board), install the other components before
connecting the RAID subsystem, and make sure your computer system works correctly
with the additional hardware and software. Then turn to "If You Are Adding the RAID
Subsystem to an Existing Computer System," below.
IF THE RAID SUBSYSTEM IS PART OF A COMPLETE COMPUTER SYSTEM
If you have ordered the RAID subsystem as part of a complete computer system, it will
be integrated with the computer system for you by Alpha Microsystems. In this case,
you need only be concerned with final setup. See "Final Installation," below, for details.
IF YOU ARE ADDING THE RAID SUBSYSTEM TO AN EXISTING COMPUTER SYSTEM
Here are the steps you must follow to add a RAID subsystem to an existing computer
system.
